"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

kaine: my first REAL jungle hike!

It's Kaine's turn to share with you all!  Last week Nathan took him on a men's hike to visit some missionary friends who live in a tribe called Kaje.  It was a long, hard journey but Kaine totally rocked it.  I love bragging on my studly little boy (and my studly husband, too!  Nathan and Kaine are such a great team!)  Here is Kaine's story about his trip to Kaje (with my comments in red)...

A few days ago me and my dad went to a village called Kaje.  First we had to drive four hours.  Then we had to walk for six hours [through swamps, rivers, and straight jungle.  Also, Kaine was at the front of the group the whole way...the Kaje guys were talking about Kaine "winning" all the men :)].

It was a hard hike but at the end it was fun--really fun!  When we walked up to the village, the people did a dance for us because they were glad that we came.  They made crowns and necklaces and put them on our heads.

When we were at Kaje I got to pet a cockatoo.  A cockatoo is a parrot that can come in all different colors.

There was also really cute puppies--their names were Brownie, Josh and Chubby.  They are really cute.  [the guys stayed in the village for two days and then it was time to do that hike all over again...] Steve and Tanner [two guys in their group] went barefoot [I don't think they will ever do a jungle hike barefoot again!].  At the end of the hike their feet were messed up!  There were lots of thorns and roots.  When we hiked back to the van we walked across four rivers.

At the end I chugged a pop when we went home in the car.  I am so glad to be in PNG.

The men of Team Universe...Bill, Tanner, Nathan, Kaine, Steve and Isaac

See you later!
Love,
Kaine

I'm really proud of you Kaine. I'm sure you did all of this with out complaining even once. I was wondering if you saw any wildlife (mainly snakes or crocodiles).
I would have loved to be on the hike with you, but I hope we can do a hike together in the near future.
